Meet the Therapist

Hello!

My name is Ryan McLeod and I am a Registered Social Worker and Certified Play Therapist with the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT).  I have over 15 years of experience in children’s mental health and child welfare. I have worked across Ontario in a range of settings, functions and optics of practice. The foundation of my practice is safety, permanency, and wellbeing of children.

I earned a Master’s degree in Social Work, an undergraduate degree in Child and Youth Care, and an advanced diploma in the studies of Child and Youth Work. I have taught Child and Youth courses at Humber College since 2011, and have presented nationally and internationally for counselling and treatment related topics. I am also a Restorative Justice Instructor.

In my formative practice years, I was the recipient of the Krista Sepp Award; an award which recognizes significant contributions to the field and practice of Child and Youth Work in the first 5 years of professional practice.

I maintain professional standing and ongoing educational training. I am a registered member of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW), the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care (OACYC), and the Canadian Association for Play Therapy (CAPT).

I believe that play is the most effective and natural medium for children to communicate, grow, and heal; consequently contributing to mental, emotional, social, and psychological wellbeing. I also believe that all children carry resiliency, and can heal and develop given an environment that allows for safety and a therapeutic relationship.

Ryan McLeod, RSW, MSW, CPT, BCYC
